Overview
Seamless is the clothing product stewardship scheme for Australia, operated as a voluntary membership programme for brands and retailers.
It is not equivalent to mandatory EU/French/California textile EPR laws. Members contribute to collection, reuse and recycling initiatives and public reporting goals. Fashion groups with Australian sales may join voluntarily while monitoring any future regulated stewardship.
In September 2026, Seamless called on government to introduce mandatory, nationally coordinated clothing stewardship by 2029—confirming that mandatory EPR does not exist in Australia today.
Key requirements
- Voluntary membership / levy participation for brands that join.
- Support scheme activities on collection, sorting, reuse and recycling.
- No general statutory duty for all clothing producers as of September 2026.
Who’s affected
Clothing brands and retailers selling in Australia that choose to join Seamless; not a universal legal mandate.
